Raising the Hopes of Young Stars (RHYS) is a not-for profit organisation set up in memory of Rhys Cowen, who tragically died in 2020 from Rhabdomyo Sarcoma (a rare cancer).

In a tribute to Rhys, his Dad David Cowen and three friends Pete Jaynes, Bob Pinfold and Steve Widdowson are undertaking an epic 560-mile cycle ride starting on Saturday 29th May.  The ride will leave from the Coventry Building Society Arena at 8am with a fitting send off from local businessman Andy Blair among other supporters.  The riders will visit St James’ Park (Newcastle) and Anfied (Liverpool) stadium along the route, the clubs Rhys’ supported, with Sir Geoffrey Boycott having agreed to meet the riders and offer support during their challenge.

RHYS wanted to raise funds to enable other young children tackling cancer to have a memorable, sporting day out – to give something for them to look forward to and create memories of a fantastic day. David Cowen said “It was Rhys’ wish that I undertake something that would challenge me, to raise funds for other children to have a similar VIP sporting experience to the one he was able to have. The ride will be full of highs and lows but knowing I’m doing it for Rhys, other children and their families is more than enough to make the emotional and physical toll we’ll experience a focus for us to succeed”.

With a target of £5,000 set to enable sporting experiences to be purchased, RHYS have been extremely fortunate to receive support from FOUR Coventry Businesses, Mirius, KB Transport Solutions, CCW Logistics and The Cassidy Group, who have been touched by the dedication of the riders and their goal.
