Environmental, Social and Governance
Mirius believes that the design, adoption and implementation of Environmental, Social and Governance policies adds value to our business. As a manufacturer of chemical products, Mirius is intrinsically involved in practices that ESG is intended to capture. The senior management team at Mirius made the conscious decision to review, approve and embed a raft of practices that allow us to purposefully move towards ESG best practice in the way we conduct our business. It is the goal of Mirius to position ourselves as a responsible leader of ESG in our industry on a global level.
What are we doing to make good on our intention?
Environmental considerations
As a business, we have begun the assessment of our energy consumption, carbon emissions, waste generation and requirements for wider resources. Working with external experts, we are measuring, reporting and, crucially, reducing our profile of these key criteria. We will announcement milestone achievements regarding our status and progress throughout our journey towards net zero carbon manufacturing.
Social considerations
Our business is the people we employ. Heathy labour relations, inclusivity in the workplace and an ethical management style are recognised as indispensable to a strong, loyal, productive workforce by the senior management team at Mirius. The wider community that we operate in is also of interest to us, hence our involvement in myriad community and charitable schemes that reflects our care for the surrounding society.
Governance considerations
High quality internal governance makes good business sense. For many years, Mirius has demonstrated robust internal governance through multiple accredited systems of practice, control and reporting. We are familiar with and adhere to the broad scope of regulations that govern our industry and in so doing, protect our business as well as our stakeholders.
The benefits of our ESG Strategy
We believe that investing in ESG is not a drain on business – on the contrary, done properly it fosters growth. How?
Here is a selection of schemes comprising the Mirius ESG strategy as of August 2024:
The Mirius ‘Super Sapling’ Pledge
Mirius pledges to plant a tree on behalf of every customer for every £1000 (GBP spent on our products). Further, Mirius will plant a second tree. Super Sapling is operated through the Evertreen reforestation project that allows customers to choose forest locations, follow the growth of their trees and share their inclusion in another tangible impact on the welfare of the environment.

Responsibly Sourced Palm Oil
Palm oil is present in a huge array of raw materials used across numerous industries. Irresponsible harvesting of palm oil from nature is known to lead to deforestation and perturbation of already fragile ecosystems. Responsible sourcing of palm oil avoids these undesirable impacts whilst serving the needs of global industry. Mirius is pleased to state that we have been accredited by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil for years so we are therefore able to evidence our commitment and compliance to the requirements for sustainability to protect the natural environment.

We are committed not to test any products on animals
One of our business ethics is produce vegan friendly products
Recycling
Mirius demonstrated its vision and commitment to the importance of reducing waste, particularly plastics, by being the first manufacturer to present trigger bottle products in 100% recycled plastic. This first-to-market event, alongside redesigning its machine tools to remove weight from each bottle (without compromising structural integrity) set a packaging standard in our industry. Next, Mirius began sourcing limited lines of HDPE containers made with varying amounts of recycled content that are 100% recyclable plastic. Now, over 80% of our bottles are 100% recyclable.
Waste generated on site – paper, plastic and cardboard – is segregated into dedicated bins for collection by specialist recycling contractors. We are moving towards our next target of incorporating at least 70% recyclable cartons in our supply chain. Early in 2024, we switched plastic-based packaging tape to a paper alternative and calculated the weight saving on plastic waste to be 2000 kg per month. We continue to pursue and identify options for waste reduction such as cardboard and paper containers.
