Amber Lights is an Oxford-based charity dedicated to combatting the difficulties experienced by homeless people. Amber Lights was started in 2019 by Amber Hughes as a way of giving back to another charity, Homeless Oxfordshire, after it supported a family member during their time of need (1). Such has been the impact of Amber Lights in its relatively short existence that Amber has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the King’s Birthday Honours for her services to the community.
In addition to fund-raising activities, Amber Lights hosts art workshops for children aimed at raising awareness of homelessness. These school and community-based workshops provide a safe space for children to enjoy art whilst sensitively engaging with issues of homelessness in an appropriate way. Mirius is delighted to be involved with Amber Lights by providing practical support. So far, Mirius has funded the provision of art equipment and materials for the workshops and provided an additional collection of products for the children’s benefit.
Mirius continues to actively support its chosen charities including Homeless Oxfordshire, the Trussell Trust and Leapgate as they work hard to alleviate the difficulties of many people in our communities.
