At Mirius we have found that bringing students into the business through structured placements is one of the most effective ways to develop future talent while supporting young people at a pivotal stage in their careers. We see placements as more than short-term work experience, they are a chance for young adults to gain practical skills, understand how a commercial operation works and contribute to real projects that make a difference.

Our latest student placement position has been filled by Maitri, who will be working in the technical department for the next 9 months alongside Technical Director, Dr Richard Hastings.

For us, it is an opportunity to share industry knowledge with Maitri, as well as bring some fresh thinking into the team.” – Dr Richard Hastings

Maitri will be documenting her experience here on the blog, kicking things off with an introduction and reflecting on her first month at Mirius:
Hi, I am Maitri and this blog series is about my placement and its importance and impact on my personal and professional development. Before starting let me introduce myself, I am a Master’s student from the University of Surrey pursuing Pharmaceutical Science with placement. A placement is incredibly important because it bridges the gap between theory and real world practice or simply turning learning into lived experience. Being given the opportunity for placement at Mirius was exciting and nerve wracking, as it offers me a valuable opportunity to grow and learn.

A month has already gone by and I have been given chances to take on new projects to sharpen my skills and knowledge, and I am also being encouraged to be more independent in my work. I have been able to work closely with the team, contributing to different tasks to building positive team relationships. Within the first month, I had the opportunity to experience the launch of a new product range, allowing me to learn from the team and understand the work that goes into delivering a successful launch. In addition, being part of charity work has been a rewarding experience, highlighting the importance of social responsibility within the organisation.

With many more experiences still to come, this placement journey is only just getting started – stay tuned for what’s next.
