In a previous Mirius blog, we presented the up-to-date case of Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) in Cambodia. What about the neighbouring countries?
Thailand has not reported any confirmed cases of bird flu for nearly two decades and Thai government authorities state that the risk of bird flu in Thailand is currently low. However, the Thai government is sufficiently concerned to increase monitoring across the country due to the increasing number of cases in Cambodia (Thailand and Cambodia share a land border), where a more dangerous strain of the virus has been found. Furthermore, Thailand continues to strengthen its preparedness and response systems to minimise risk while urging the public to remain informed, cautious and cooperative.
Tackling diseases such as bird flu, biosecurity, is an ongoing process that demands careful and consistent attention. Long-term public health protection from infectious diseases relies on sustained vigilance and a meticulous approach to biosecurity.
