Highly pathogenic Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) is confirmed as on-going in several regions of the United Kingdom. In the last week of 2025, Bird Flu was confirmed for the first time in a large poultry farm in the county of Nottinghamshire. However, at the same time, in the regions of North Yorkshire and Lancashire, Bird Flu was reported as eradicated from the poultry sites of previous outbreaks according to the UK government’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

The containment and eradication of Bird Flu from North Yorkshire and Lancashire is due to the strict biosecurity measures on the affected farms overseen by DEFRA. Moreover, biosecurity is also essential for preventing outbreak of infectious disease, including Bird Flu in animal production. Use of DEFRA-approved disinfectants as part of a comprehensive biosecurity program enhances the technical credibility of the measures in place. Mirius produces a range of biosecurity products, such as Omnicide, which have been examined, tested, and approved by DEFRA.
