Mirius is committed to continuously raising our sustainability and environmental standards, using ESG as a focus to measure our performance and progress.

Environmental, Social and Governance

Mirius believes that the design, adoption and implementation of Environmental, Social and Governance policies adds value to our business. As a manufacturer of chemical products, Mirius is intrinsically involved in practices that ESG is intended to capture. The senior management team at Mirius made the conscious decision to review, approve and embed a raft of practices that allow us to purposefully move towards ESG best practice in the way we conduct our business. It is the goal of Mirius to position ourselves as a responsible leader of ESG in our industry on a global level.

What are we doing to make good on our intention?

Environmental considerations
As a business, we have begun the assessment of our energy consumption, carbon emissions, waste generation and requirements for wider resources. Working with external experts, we are measuring, reporting and, crucially, reducing our profile of these key criteria. We will announcement milestone achievements regarding our status and progress throughout our journey towards net zero carbon manufacturing.

Social considerations
Our business is the people we employ. Heathy labour relations, inclusivity in the workplace and an ethical management style are recognised as indispensable to a strong, loyal, productive workforce by the senior management team at Mirius. The wider community that we operate in is also of interest to us, hence our involvement in myriad community and charitable schemes that reflects our care for the surrounding society.

Governance considerations
High quality internal governance makes good business sense. For many years, Mirius has demonstrated robust internal governance through multiple accredited systems of practice, control and reporting. We are familiar with and adhere to the broad scope of regulations that govern our industry and in so doing, protect our business as well as our stakeholders.

The benefits of our ESG Strategy

We believe that investing in ESG is not a drain on business – on the contrary, done properly it fosters growth. How?

Productivity increase. High quality people tend to be attracted to reputable employers. This is particularly true for employers presenting strong ESG schemes because employees are motivated by a sense of purpose. Employee satisfaction is positively correlated with enhanced productivity.

An impressive, evidencable ESG strategy can allow penetration into new markets and expansion of existing ones. We believe that customer and prospects who view our business model as ethical and responsible are more likely to award us business.

Reduced regulatory intervention. Evidence across multiple industries shows that strong ESG practice contributes to the reduction of adverse government intervention.

Reducing resource use inevitably reduces costs. For example, a strong correlation is recognised between resource efficiency and financial performance.

The Mirius ‘Super Sapling’ Pledge

Mirius is committed to making a positive impact. In September 2024, we pledged to plant one tree for every £1,000 customers spend on Super Professional brand through our Super Saplings Project, in partnership with Evertreen and their reforestation initiative. These trees help restore forests, offset CO₂, and create a meaningful, lasting benefit for the environment.

Scope 2 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction

Mirius is delighted to announce that we have achieved our scope 2 Greenhouse Gas emissions target by procuring 100% renewable electricity as of April 2025. This is a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. Mirius had committed to a scope 2 emissions reduction of 100% by 2025. This target was achieved in April 2025 by procuring 100% renewable electricity for use in our company premises meaning our whole manufacturing operation runs on renewable electricity.

Thanks to the strong support and commitment from our senior management, Mirius continues to make meaningful sustainability progress as defined by our ESG Strategy. Moreover, by incorporating renewable electricity, Mirius is not only reducing its carbon footprint, but also striving to be a sustainability role model for our customers and suppliers.

Responsibly Sourced Palm Oil

Palm oil is present in a huge array of raw materials used across numerous industries. Irresponsible harvesting of palm oil from nature is known to lead to deforestation and perturbation of already fragile ecosystems. Responsible sourcing of palm oil avoids these undesirable impacts whilst serving the needs of global industry.

Mirius is proud to be a long-standing member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and display the certification logo to evidence our commitment and compliance for sustainability and the protection of the natural environment.

Recycling

Mirius has led the way in reducing waste, especially plastic. We were the first manufacturer to launch trigger bottles made from 100% recycled plastic. We also redesigned our machine tools to remove excess weight (light weighted) from every bottle without affecting strength. This set a new packaging benchmark in our industry.

We then expanded into HDPE containers that use varying levels of recycled content. Today, all of our bottles and cartons are recyclable and we have replaced plastic packaging tape with a paper alternative. These changes have cut plastic waste by an estimated 2,000 kg each month.

On site, we segregate all waste paper, plastic and cardboard into dedicated bins for collection by specialist recycling contractors.
